Dietmar Hamann, who won European fame with Liverpool, falls back to Stockport County in the Football League
Hamann watches quietly - still sharp observer during a training game, as he works to help out, players can him lift Stockport back into the Football League. Before session ends with a draining race and ropes, over a lunch of white fish and steamed vegetables, Hamann shudders: \. "You know, when I arrived here [a month ago] they had sandwiches on white bread or curry, after training"
This afternoon runs at the top of the Vernon Park, he grunts with satisfaction as its always fully fit squad 10 grueling hill - make the pain of his players 'faces him smile. By a troop of three children, Hamann has his list of contracted players to 16 expands. "I need two or three -. But they look like a team now"
Driving with Hamann from Stockport to his home in Alderley Edge offers more lighting. He listens carefully to test it on the radio, to assess where India says most of the fight against England, and shared a passion for cricket by a few Germans. Hamann also offers fascinating companies discuss his own career or the managers who most influenced him to Eriksson by Giovanni Trapattoni.
He's just blurry when about Evans and the consortium, which prompted him to join Stockport on conviction. "Tony Evans called me and said he 's in the process of taking over Stockport and I would be interested in the manager. I know, the consortium with GT Law [a Liverpool-based insurance company claims], and they' re jersey sponsor. That 's good enough for me. I met some of them a few weeks ago when a sponsor' s in the evening. They seem nice people. "
About his drinks and cigarettes, Hamann is more interested in talking football - even if it also shows a learned knowledge of the Guardian 's investigation into the murky business of Rupert Murdoch' s News Corporation. It is hard to tell where all Stockport at the end but Hamann, they have chosen a smart and pragmatic new manager.
