Uruguay will meet Peru in the semi final after knocking out the hosts on penalties after a dramatic game in Sante Fe

Gabriel Milito tries to hook the ball away and catch the Liverpool man, who falls to the ground in pain before hopping to his feet and trot in the area. yellow card for Milito. 86 min: Red card for Javier Mascherano

Messi is tripped by Arevalo. It's a far worse challenge that Mascherano's but he escapes yellow somehow.

Uruguay have started extra-time, fairly light, which is more than can be said for Fernando Gago, who limped off to be replaced now by Lucas Biglia.

ET 7 min:Suarez is on the edge of the area, but the free kick against Liverpool man, who may not be satisfied. Some remarks on Twitter. First of Cormac, the off response to the more predictable items: "Other unavoidable sets .. Messi goes on a mazy run, Suarez tried to con the ref, Lugano occurs cast of the new Pirates movie ..."

ET 10 min: Pastore tries his luck on his leg control before hitting a dipping volley, but doesn 't enough to dip. More on Twitter this time from Sam Robinson on the spray paint can lead to the referee to mark where the wall must stand with a free kick: "The line of flight, that the wall has to retire is probably the most commonsensical thing in South American Football.
