is ironic that a former student is the use of anti-discrimination law to continue the department of the LSE. But he was only there for six weeks
Feminismmakes some people very frightened, others angry. Tom Martin, who took legal action against the London School of Economics, may be perceived as belonging to both categories. A former student at the London School of Economics Gender Institute, Martin said he had the misfortune of being subjected to a torrent of discrimination against men during their (short) time there, and he cited the rights on gender equality to support their case. The irony of attacking feminists for invoking a law whose existence is largely due to the energy and commitment of feminist activists think it should be noted.
Martin says the course material discussed during his six weeks on the London Stock Exchange against the men was systematically ignores the problems of men, and ignored all the research that has challenged a "good women, bad men "line of reasoning. In addition, Martin said that the Institute of Gender instilled in students, with an almost religious fervor, a simplistic view of women as victims and men as perpetrators. If your experience is anything to go by, every man worthy of the name would stay away from institutionalized misandry. Thus, male readers, before you start hiding behind a couch in fear gender studies professor who is castration of so, let me assure you. I do not know the details of the experience of Martin, I am a man of such academic research assets, and was a researcher at the same institution as Martin is demanding. Yet For me, like many other scholars of gender studies and male students, my academic commitment to issues of feminism and gender has been nothing short of life-affirming.
- gender studies is an attempt to criticize the entrenched male bias. As an emerging field of study, which is still weak and lack the financial and institutional influence of major disciplines. I find it totally baffling that you want to direct anger toward one of the few academic areas where the consequences of prejudice that go largely unanswered are explored elsewhere. But
What is not disputed, however, is the contribution to such studies of current research on the changing nature of masculinity. Scholars such as Jeff Hearn, RW Connell, Keith Pringle, Michael Kimmel and Terrell Carver was inspired by feminism and women's studies to analyze, inequalities such as class and race among men, the causes and consequences of male violence, the experience of different types of male sexuality and how ideas of masculinity influence the social and political thought. Although most studies on gender scholars and students are women, people like Jeff Hearn and Michael Kimmel opened the way to increase the number of men to contribute to university studies of gender, the contributions that have been unequivocally welcome. In this context, if a student of gender studies should present a crude "good women, men bad" analysis, which never caught on to watch the counting.
Finally, gender studies courses are extremely friendly and supportive environments. Unlike congestion and compliance in many academic fields, students and scholars of gender studies are tolerant, respectful, informed in their attitudes toward race, sexual orientation and transsexuality. Gender Studies is consistently more sociable than other academics, and all types of people are welcome, provided they are willing to engage with people and ideas in an attentive and respectful. If you are involved in the fight against discrimination and prejudice in academia, gender studies is a poor choice eccentric target.
