Owen Coyle 's site can be turn on the style, but needs to find fresh firepower to its priority with so many tough start to the season fixtures

Guardian writer 'prediction 11 (Note: this is not Jacob Steinberg 's prediction, but the average of our authors' tips)

Last season 's position 14

Odds of winning the league : 1,000-1

Not many people outside of Nottingham will recall, the swashbuckling side Forest from the 2002/03 season, but they offer a pertinent warning of Bolton Wanderers. Eight years ago, Paul Hart almost led Forest to promotion to the Premier League, lost 5-4 on aggregate only in the semi-final play-off to Sheffield United. His side was partly due to the lock-pick, which doubles as the left foot of Andy Reid, but also on the goals by Marlon Harewood before Darren Huckerby and David Johnson. It would have been difficult to mount a stronger attack in the championship.

In between the three strikers scored 53 goals in the league (Huckerby was on loan from Manchester City, signed in February and had five in 11 games). The next season should see the forest can continue to make progress. Instead crashed. Huckerby, the city had returned, but joined Forest 's promotion rivals, Norwich City, and helped them win the league with eight points. In September, Johnson and his leg broke in October, Harewood was sold to West Ham United. As easy as tearing off a toe nail, 53 goals have been torn from the side, and Forest in 14th place A year later they were expelled from League One.

Obviously there is still a chance to locate recognizable act in an episode of Glee as happened to Bolton this season, but Owen Coyle was on his side 's chances to be worried. Last season, he could call on three strikers, Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander and Daniel Sturridge. Then, in the sense of the Spice Girls were three to one: Galatasaray, in a position to offer more money, have signed on a free transfer and Elmander Sturridge has returned to Chelsea's impressive loan spell at the Reebok Stadium. Sturridge, who scored eight times in 12 games for Bolton, is the greater loss. An amazingly deft presence in attack, he was comfortably \ Bolton's best player by giving them a different dimension for the future. Perhaps Coyle reserves can lend hope of convincing him Chelsea again, but it has little to say that this has happened.

Elmander 's departure, although frustrating, is probably less harmful. During his first two seasons in England he was regarded as a standing joke - if he has against you knew you you are doing something wrong - and although he performed creditable in the first half of last season it was never justified to a level the ? 8.2m it spent Gary Megson in 2008. A remarkable solo goal against Wolves in November last year was perhaps the highlight of his time at Bolton, but that was more the exception than the rule. In the second half of the season he managed only one goal in the league, but that was partly a consequence of a move into a deeper role following Sturridge 's arrival.

The pair contributed 18 league goals for Bolton. Davies, who said never fertile, another eight, but seven of those came before the New Year 's Day. Now 34, he is not the man to solve a very glaring problem for Coyle. Also, Rodrigo Moreno and Ivan Klasnic, who is at least one useful option of the Bank. In their search for a new striker with Bolton David Ngog, a solution that doesn 't have to convince now been brought together.

As alarming as the lack of goals, the way Bolton in the second half of the season, broke down when she won a paltry five games in the league, none of which were on their travels. There were extenuating circumstances for such a poor run of form, though. Three of the victories came injured his knee in front of Stuart Holden after a shocking attack by Manchester United 's Jonny Evans on 19 March, could play only after the Bolton West Ham and Arsenal. Apart from these two victories were in eight of their last 10 Bolton League games and were beaten 5-0 by Stoke City demolished in their FA Cup semi-final.

Holden's injury was disastrous. The American was a key part of Bolton's midfield, regularly breaking up play in front of his back four and overwhelming opponents with the sort of energy that would put a hyperactive toddler to shame. Without him, though, Bolton lacked zest and their defence was increasingly exposed. Although Bolton kept only five clean sheets last season, their defensive record was not bad – 56 goals conceded, which is perhaps not too surprising when Jussi Jaaskelainen is in goal and Gary Cahill is in the centre of defence. However, Holden will be missing at the start of the season. They need him back as soon as possible.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Bolton have also been rocked by the broken leg suffered by Lee Chung-yong after a nasty and unnecessary challenge from Newport County's Tom Miller in a pre-season friendly last Saturday. Lee, one of the most exciting wingers in the league, will be out for nine months. Bolton will sorely miss him while he recovers; the South Korean is a good crosser, a hard worker and a cool finisher. The injuries mean Coyle has been forced to look for both quantity and quality. In the final game of last season, he was forced to play Elmander and Ricardo Gardner in central midfield against Manchester City, demonstrating the need for a bigger squad. Yet at the same time, no manager wants to buy for the sake of it.

Because without Lee and Holden, Bolton 's in the middle suddenly feel a rather average. In the middle, Fabrice Muamba effectively destroyed and Mark Davies is a clever player who should develop further if he gets more playing time this season. Nigel Reo-Coker has also added a free transfer more steel, although not nearly with the ball has been signed precision. Darren Pratley has arrived to have helped Cardiff City win the Championship play-offs. Martin Petrov on the left side is always dangerous, if not always reliable. He started only 18 games last season and his rival, Matthew Taylor, West Ham has arrived.

Creativity can be scarce, unless, Chris Eagles, signed from Burnley to face the challenge. The former Manchester United winger has always had potential but not yet to really deliver on them. Flashier than Lee, but less effective, it has always been able to do remarkable moments of skill and Bolton, which on a regular basis. Eagles has also Bolton was from Tyrone Mears, not to defend one of those gung-ho followed right back, are all the rage now. He won 't add much defensively, but is a major threat to the future.

Bolton need to run the floor as their start to the season makes grim reading taken. In the first seven games, they host Manchester City, Manchester United, Norwich City and Chelsea, while there are also trips to Arsenal and Liverpool. They go to Queens Park Rangers on the first day, which sounds pleasant enough, but matches played away in August rarely promoted sides. It is conceivable that they have no more than three points by the middle of October.

Bolton should be realistic enough to keep free from relegation. Remain there until in 2003 they have enjoyed more solid campaign, and aside from a blip inspired Sammy Lee in 2008, they have mostly stopped in the middle.

The Reebok remains a difficult place to visit and the idea that Bolton England 's answer to Barcelona last season were far-fetched. Although Coyle Law has a reputation for producing entertaining team, he is not stupid and Bolton still has the ball forward quickly and directly. This means that audiences have been and the fans seemed more than satisfied with what they saw as Coyle has certainly an influence on her style, like a beautiful six pass move in December against Blackpool that Mark Davies 's progress highlighted target. In fact, after a 5-1 shellacking of Newcastle United in November, Bolton were the nation 's favorites, and for a long time they sat in sixth place, harboring genuine hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. Then came the collapse and an ultimately disappointing 14th Place. But Bolton should not forget what was previously achieved.

Above all, find the right striker Coyle. Get this right and there should be no reason for concern. Get it wrong and 14 Do have room, just fine.
