Archbishop of Canterbury

not an impossible task, since it was proposed: to hold together the Anglican Communion

Rowan Williams as Archbishop of Canterbury is not because the job description makes success impossible. But the announcement of his resignation, it is clear that he could not, but above all an impossible task, it was proposed: to hold together the Anglican Communion. This meeting - now more of a dispersion - of 38 churches around the world continued the schism between liberals and conservatives, which has been ongoing since the 1990s. Both here and abroad, Dr. Williams has made enough sacrifices for the unity of alienating their liberal supporters not to satisfy their conservative enemies. But that's what he felt was his duty as archbishop, and the patient and humble manner has followed this path ungrateful, mocked the left and right, he offered an example not only Christians find appealing.

charm

would be too easy and simplistic to write him a good man but a bad Archbishop. His personal humility was offset by a certain intellectual detachment: it was sometimes surprisingly naive to think that his speech can be read, and between sounds can be heard. It took a while to realize he had enemies who hated him and wanted to destroy the Church of England. Sometimes he seemed to believe that the effects of his personal charm and force alone would be sufficient to bring the arguments.

was not Dr. Williams by the instinct of a centralizing, or someone who believes that good bureaucratic settings could save the church. He put his confidence, perhaps too often, in the Holy Spirit. Some thought that his management style was vaguely sympathetic, but without damage and in time the rate of decline in church attendance has dropped to almost nothing. All this was part of his success in managing progressive destabilization. This is not a formal process, but an informed and informal, through which the Church of England has just appeared increasingly peripheral to the real concerns of the country. Williams has done much to slow or reverse this process. His intellectual force, and its enormous gravity, shows that the church had much to offer to a country that tried to understand. His writing can sometimes seem visualization exercises university, but it was clear that when he spoke, who always supported. He could talk to murderers, politicians and even journalists, without condescension. He believed in the discussion rather than decrees. His voice was strong and urgent when it comes to real problems. The idea that devout Christians must be stupid, ignorant or intolerant can not be taken seriously by anyone who heard the Archbishop. Amidst the rhetoric of "war against terrorism", rose to humanity, moderation and common sense. His opposition to the Iraq war, in particular, has been measured, but clear.
