the given free rein to attack women's reproductive rights. It's time for preventive action
is easy to be complacent. It is easy to read the titles that show an MP suggestions are not supported by Parliament and assume that there is no need to take them seriously. When an amendment to a bill of health require that women have pre-abortion counseling could be provided for religious, pro-life groups have voted against, we can certainly breathe, relax a bit and reassure us that the threat for women's rights in reproductive health more?
Far from it. Now - when there is a reasonable break in the right-wing press of matter - it is precisely when we should be concerned by the parliament of the most reactionary. Because when they are openly making fun of sex as something that corrupts the minds of young women, or society, can be sure that behind the scenes who plan new ways to undermine the rights that we have taken for granted over generations in this country.
This is not an exaggeration: Nadine Dorries MP may have lost the vote, but another bill introduced earlier this year, requiring girls to be taught abstinence as a mandatory element sex education should be a second reading in Parliament next year.
This bill was suggested Dorries not only a way to counter the apparently high number of teenage pregnancies, but also to prevent abuse. "If a strong" say no "message was given to children at the school," Dorries argues, "could have an impact on sexual abuse, like most girls, when sexual abuse occurs, no not until later that it was a bad thing to do ... "So if you knew how girls say no to sex, which somehow prevent them from being sexually abused? What about boys? Did you not realize?
- In addition Dorries's bill based on the premise that abstinence teaching fails teenagers who become pregnant. In the U.S., where abstinence programs flourishing health of the pre-Obama years, the rate of teenage pregnancy remains the highest in the developed world. In contrast, comprehensive sex education based on scientific evidence and lack of moral standards, has a proven positive effect in this area: the rate of teenage pregnancy in the UK are at their lowest level since early 1980 - is not that you might find some corners of the press.
- The fact that a member who can spread such inaccuracies proposes useless to blame the victim of the bill should give us all cause for concern. Dorries had a pretty good reign in the media recently, as Vice outspokenness she has the opportunity to make unfounded allegations, as her story, often repeated by the press - that girls of seven years shows how put a condom on a sex education course bananas. Moral indignation followed, but no evidence that demand for support such a request sensational - and Dorries has never been able to provide evidence that this situation occurred? Teachers and those working with young people in sex education are aware of their alarmism, but have no voice to challenge it.
execution of an event called Sex Appeal on behalf of the creek, the charity for young people on sexual health for people to talk and openly challenge those who spread false information on sex, sexuality and sex education.
If we do not fight attacks that invade the access to abortion will see a further erosion of women's reproductive rights. And if we do not fight on behalf of youth and the education they are entitled, the impact on their lives, their relationships and sexual health will be felt for generations to come. Nadine Dorries, we are ready for you.
