Republican Senator from South Carolina is the mobilization of support from social conservatives "to be a fundamental reason for 2012
It's official: Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, not participate in the "Forum of the candidates' special planned for Sept. 5 in South Carolina. None of the candidates of the Republican Party since 1980, won the 'his party's nomination without winning the "Palmetto" State - even if they have already lost in either New Hampshire or Iowa, and Romney, already jumped the first debate of the Republican Party of South Carolina, held two months ago, seems completely writing off South Carolina, where he lost badly in 2008.
But Romney also avoid what is more unworthy of a meeting. The main sponsor of the event, the youth of the South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim DeMint is strongly anti-gay, anti-abortion, and certainly the most conservative member of the house upper end of the Congress. His co-host, a law professor at Princeton, Robert George, is the founding president of the National Organization of fight against gay marriage. The event itself is co-organized by George principles of the bill, a group that started this year by the boycott of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to protest against the participation of Republicans in favor of human GOProud gay groups.
DeMintcalled "Freedom Forum", which promises to be another meeting of the homophobic white hoods and very vocal Republican hardliners.
Why the Governor Rick Perry, MP Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, pizza magnate Herman Cain, and even irrelevant, but frankly, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, all agreed to attend - looks like the blessing of George DeMint and social issues agenda?
- hitting people is gay, apparently, is a proven method of rallying in a particular sector of the conservative base.
- But this is not the case with all the Republicans - which makes up DeMint and the choice of sponsors in bad taste. After all, Palin has to GoPROUD at CPAC, and in fact spoke out against homophobia. It is not (yet) a candidate for the Republican Party, but was extended an invitation - which she refused. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who supports gay marriage, also rejected the invitation. And former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, the only Republican candidate who openly supports gay civil unions, and in need of exposure is likely to have wanted to attend the event, was not even invited .
- Officially, DeMint says he wants the forum for candidates to serve as a process of selecting candidates for the Republican Party, particularly on issues related to employment and the economy - even Christians Conservatives admit should be the focus of the Republican Party this election cycle. And no doubt, if the candidates DeMint to clarify their views in debates over national television to do so, you have to do a kind of public service.
- But DeMint, who has largely succeeded in blocking his Republican friends in South Carolina to make amendments or large campaign contributions, is also creating a litmus test to qualify as a "true conservative" in front what is a dreaded "Rino" (Republican in name only) and must be disposed of on the bus.
is probably a blessing for everyone that is presented on September 5 for questioning by DeMint and George into something dark and no television - except at the state level - "Star Chamber" event. But it is a sign of how things are that many GOP candidates walk diligently to do the will of DeMint, may be too afraid of the consequences of being labeled as "rose".
